For me, photography provides a way to visually capture a
moment in time, all the while inviting curiosity and interest as to the mysteries that lie
beyond the scope of the image. Many times I travel alone, which gives me great flexibility
and freedom to stop, wait, or go back to a setting or scene that is especially intriguing.
I am inspired by splashes of color, unusual architectural lines, dramatic reflections, and
the playfulness of light and shadow. Some roads I have traveled more than once, yet there
is always something new to observe; some new angle to record on film. Seeing the final
print for the first time is the most rewarding, for it keeps the impressions of places
traveled and experienced fresh and alive. Once in a while, there is an additional surprise
to behold — something I wasn’t particularly aware of while taking the
photograph mysteriously appears, making the image even richer and more interesting. There
is something magical about being behind the camera and using creative skills and artistic
perceptions to capture the flavor, beauty and uniqueness of places near and
far.
