1999 • Transportation Choices Forum & BOSS (Building Opportunities for Self-sufficiency) are two groups that have made exceptional contributions to the transportation planning process by bringing new voices to the transportation planning table.

1999 • Bill Baxter and the Santa Clara County Traffic Operations Center. Baxter is the branch manager for the County Roads and Airports Department of the new, $1.7 facility that allows technicians to monitor traffic flow and adjust signal timing to alleviate congestion, or dispatch emergency crews.

1999 • Caltrans District 4 Public Awareness Campaign Team organized the PAC to make more motorists aware of the special safety needs near highway work zones.

1999 • Phil Frank draws the beloved "Farley" comic strip for the San Francisco Chronicle which, more often than not, deals lightheartedly with transportation issues.

1999 • The S.F. Caltrain Station Renovation took a rather drab and uninviting place and made it light, airy, and, more importantly, highly accessible to persons with disabilities.

1999 • Fair, Isaac Petaluma Commute Center. Fair, Isaac and Co. , which is based in San Rafael, created this 2,400-square-foot telecommuting facility in Petaluma to ease the commute for a large percentage of its workforce.


1998 • Jesus Losa, who has been driving his jitney bus since 1974, makes the trip between Market Street and the Caltrain station in just a few minutes.

1998 • The San Francisco Municipal Railway Multimedia services Department has designed a CD-ROM for use by transit providers. It provides a training program and is designed to have a positive effect on the lives of the transit drivers.

1998 • Ronna Abramson has covered the challenging transportation beat for three and a half years. Her articles regularly appear in the Oakland Tribune, San Mateo County Times, The Daily Review, and the Fremont Argus.

1998 • WHEELS has provided bus services for thousands of commuters.

1998 • Strobe lights embedded in pavement to warn drivers that a pedestrian has entered the sidewalk

1998 • Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory committee has remained committed to the idea for a bicycle/pedestrian path and they worked more than a year to help Caltrans design it. By the year 2004, pedestrians, wheelchair riders and bicyclists will be able to take advantage of a 15-foot wide path along the south side of the new eastern span of the bridge.
