New Bills Introduced in House & Senate for Transportation
Reauthorization
January 2012
After much anticipation, on January 31, the House Transportation & Infrastructure
Committee released H.R. 7, the American Energy and Infrastructure Jobs Act, which
would fund surface transportation programs at levels slightly below FY 2012 for
four years (through FY 2016) for a grant total of $260 billion. A summary of
that proposal can be found here (PDF).
The committee has scheduled a hearing on the bill at 9 am, Thursday, February
2. The hearing will be web cast at http://transportation.house.gov/.
On the same day, the Senate Banking Committee released a summary of their proposal
to modify the transit title of federal funding, which can be found
here (PDF). MTC staff will
be reviewing the legislation over the next week and will post any analysis or
summaries of how the proposals would affect the Bay Area here. The Senate Banking
Committee is also scheduled to mark up its legislation on Thursday, at 10 am.
