2008 Annual Report:
A Legacy of Landmarks
In these tough economic times, MTC's 2008 annual report looks
back to the visionary transportation projects — the Golden
Gate Bridge, the San Franciso-Oakland Bay Bridge, the Caldecott
Tunnel and others — that were built in the Bay Area during
the Great Depression of the 1930s. As useful as they are beautiful,
these monuments constitute a "legacy of landmarks" for
the region. Juxtaposing sepia-toned photographs of these great
structures with views of current and planned projects of similar
scope and ambition, the report urges the Bay Area to draw inspiration
from its past and to embrace a new transportation vision that
can help reinvigorate the region's economy — by mobilizing
our ingenuity, putting our people to work and building for
the future.
