| 1 For all bridges, figures do not include
non-toll-paying vehicles (carpools, motorcycles or buses)
or violators. |
| 2 For the Golden Gate Bridge, the peak period
represented is 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. |
| 3 Figures represent the annual average percentage
of vehicles using FasTrak® between the hours of 5 a.m.
to 10 a.m. (a.m. peak) or 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. (p.m. peak) |
| 4 Figures represent a weighted average adjusted
for actual volumes on each bridge. |
| Note: Bar chart includes data for state-owned
toll bridges only, and therefore does not include the Golden
Gate Bridge data. |
Note on Data Collection Techniques:
Toll Bridge Traffic
The Bay Area Toll Authority (BATA), which oversees the collection
of tolls on state-owned bridges in the Bay Area, tracks the number
of vehicles crossing each of the seven state-owned bridges. Traffic
counts reflect vehicle crossings in the tolled direction for
accounting purposes. BATA also tracks the percentage of vehicles
that pay tolls by means of the FasTrak electronic
toll collection system. The Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation
District tracks traffic and FasTrak usage for
the Golden Gate Bridge. The average daily traffic for each bridge
is the total annual traffic divided by 365 days. Data on traffic,
revenue and FasTrak usage
for the seven state-owned bridges is available on the Bay Area
Toll Authority Web site at: bata.mtc.ca.gov/tolls/index.htm Data
on traffic, revenue and FasTrak usage for the Golden Gate
Bridge is available on the Web at: www.goldengatebridge.org/research/GGBTraffToll.php
