Note on Data Collection Techniques:
Transit Safety Statistics
This report uses the number of injuries and fatalities
involving transit as a measure of transit safety. The statistics
represent a wide range of incidents ranging from people who slip
and fall while boarding a bus to those injured or killed in collisions
with transit vehicles. The statistics include patrons, employees
and other individuals if they are injured or killed on transit
property or by transit vehicles. Transit operators report injuries
and fatalities to the Federal Transit Administration as part
of the National Transit Database project. Safety and Security
data is available by request through the Federal Transit Administration.
