Notes:
1. Data analysis is by MTC staff, based on Bureau of Labor Statistics data (http://stats.bls.gov/sae/). The Current Employment Statistics (CES) is a monthly survey of payroll records of over 390,000 establishments. Data is available down to the metropolitan level (e.g., Primary Metropolitan Statistical Areas in the Bay Area). Employment data from the Current Employment Statistics (CES) program refers to persons on establishment payrolls who receive pay for any part of the pay period which includes the 12th of the month. Persons are counted at their place of work rather than at their place of residence; those appearing on more than one payroll are counted on each payroll.
2. Non-farm payroll employment excludes farm employment and unpaid family jobs.
3. Employment data for December 2000 represents the historical high for Bay Area employment levels.
4. Current month data is for July 2006. This page last updated September 5, 2006.
