Grand Opening of the Ed Roberts Campus

April 9, 2011
The event on Saturday, April 9, 2011, marking the opening of Berkeley's Ed Roberts Campus (ERC) drew a crowd of an estimated 1,000 or more. The lineup included remarks by U.S. Representative Barbara Lee, Berkeley Mayor and MTC Commissioner Tom Bates, and Zona Roberts, Ed Roberts' mother, among others, after which Lee cut the ceremonial ribbon. The crowd flooded into the building's airy interior, eager to try the spiral ramp that is its most distinctive feature and that is a hallmark of universal design. Located at the Ashby BART station and built with the help of planning and capital grants from MTC, the building brings together a dozen organizations and agencies involved in disability services, advocacy and education/training, and already is a Berkeley landmark.
