Current TopicsMTC Publication in National SpotlightJuly 21, 2010... A new publication by MTC has been named a "Best Practice" by Reconnecting America, a national non-profit organization that is working to integrate transportation systems and the communities they serve, as well as by the Center for Transit-Oriented Development, a national nonprofit dedicated to supporting market-based transit-oriented development. Choosing Where We Live: Attracting Residents to Transit-Oriented Neighborhoods in the San Francisco Bay Area was developed by MTC as a briefing book for city planners and managers. Based on a year-long market analysis of surveys of over 900 households, the report examines what attracts San Francisco Bay Area home-seekers to transit-oriented development (TOD) neighborhoods and offers strategies for improving these neighborhoods to attract more home seekers. According to the analysis, up to two-thirds of Bay Area movers could be attracted to transit-oriented neighborhoods — so long as these communities are developed with the right features.
