COMMISSION MEETING OF DECEMBER 17, 2008

SUMMARY OF EVENTS:

TransLink Workshop
San Francisco, December 1

The TransLink Management Group held an all-day workshop to discuss several major issues, including how to improve MTC and transit agency management of the project and how to make the transition from primarily a construction to operations focus in the years ahead as the smart card program enters full deployment.

TBPOC Partnering Session
Oakland, December 11

Caltrans Director Will Kempton, CTC Executive Director John Barna, and I participated in a partnering session with the Self-Anchored Suspension (SAS) project contractor American Bridge/Fluor to explore strategies to mitigate delays in fabricating the steel portions of the new east span.

COMTO Holiday Dinner
Oakland, December 12

I joined the festivities at the northern California chapter of the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO) by presenting an award to Nat Ford, head of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency.

Map of the Month

The map of the month shows the balance of jobs to workers residing within the jurisdiction of a Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and the nature of inter-regional commuting across California. The MPOs shown in red have job surpluses or more workers at work in the MPO than workers residing in the MPO. This results in net in-commuting from surrounding MPOs. The MPOs depicted in green have job deficits which result in net out-commuting to other MPOs.
