OAKLAND, Calif., March 22, 2005... Napa County Supervisor Bill Dodd, who has represented Napa County and its cities on the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) since 2001, has been named to the Joint Policy Committee established by MTC, the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to coordinate their regional planning efforts. All nine Bay Area counties are represented on the 21-member policy committee, which was formed last year to pursue implementation of the regional smart growth vision adopted by MTC, ABAG and the Air District in 2003.
“I look forward to providing the Napa County perspective that true regional planning requires,” said Dodd. “Whether you live in San Francisco or Calistoga, the connection between transportation and land-use planning is critical.”
Central to the Joint Policy Committee’s current efforts is consideration of a regional transit-oriented-development (TOD) policy that will relate new transit investments to supportive station-area land uses. Over the longer term, the committee is responsible for overseeing the development and coordination of all major regional plans — including MTC’s Regional Transportation Plan, ABAG’s Regional Housing Needs Determination and the Air District’s Ozone Strategy — and for recommending improvements to the way its member agencies deliver regional planning services.
The Joint Policy Committee meets monthly at the Joseph P. Bort MetroCenter at 101 Eighth Street in Oakland. Meetings are Web cast in streaming audio and agenda packets are posted online approximately one week in advance of the scheduled meeting.
MTC is the transportation planning, coordinating and financing agency for the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area.
