Press ReleasesTime Extended to April 29 to Apply for MTC Advisory CommitteesContact: Pam Grove, 510.817.5757 OAKLAND, Calif., April 20, 2005 . . . Do you know people who want to contribute their time and talent to improve Bay Area transportation? The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) is seeking applicants for its three advisory committees — MTC Advisory Council, the Elderly and Disabled Advisory Committee, and the Minority Citizens Advisory Committee. MTC has extended the application deadline for applications through Friday, April 29, 2005. The advisory committee members provide a link to the public that is crucial to MTC’s work. “MTC must make policy and investment decisions that serve all Bay Area residents and transportation interests,” said MTC Chair Jon Rubin. I encourage anyone interested in helping us improve Bay Area mobility to apply for a seat.” MTC wants to ensure its three working groups include individuals who will offer a range of perspectives to inform and influence its major transportation policy and funding decisions. Seats on the three panels reflect the Bay Area’s diversity, including members from ethnic minority and low-income communities, users of the transportation system (such as drivers, transit riders, or bicyclists) and representatives of academia, and architecture, engineering, labor and public safety. No specific educational background is needed, just an interest in transportation and how it affects residents of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano and Sonoma counties. Experience in working with the community or on community-related issues is desirable. Committee members are expected to attend monthly meetings held at MTC’s offices in Oakland during business hours and to serve a two-year term. While positions are voluntary, committee members do receive a stipend for their attendance at certain meetings. MTC’s governing board of commissioners will review all applications and make final appointments to the advisory committees. Interested individuals can apply online or download an application at www.mtc.ca.gov/get_involved. For more information call 510.817.5757, or visit MTC headquarters at 101 Eighth Street, Oakland, during regular business hours. MTC
is the regional transportation planning, financing and coordinating
