Press ReleasesFor Immediate ReleaseContra Costa Agency Helps Commuters Cope With Gas Price BluesNew Partnership With Bay Area 511 ServiceContact: Lynn Osborn, 511 Contra Costa, 925.407.0353 WALNUT CREEK, Calif., August 23, 2005…With rising gasoline prices spurring new interest in alternatives to driving alone, Contra Costa County travelers need only remember a simple three-digit combination — 511 — to access a host of transportation options. The former Contra Costa Commute Alternative Network (CCCAN) is now known as 511 Contra Costa. The county-sponsored agency is partnering with the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC)’s regional 511 traveler information system to improve Contra Costa County employers’, residents’ and commuters’ access to the full range of services previously provided through CCCAN. “Driving alone is more expensive than ever,” noted 511 Contra Costa program manager Lynn Osborn. “We provide information about establishing employer trip reduction programs; getting into carpools and vanpools; transit services and incentives; guaranteed and emergency ride home programs; even carpools to schools. And unlike gas, our services are absolutely free of charge — on the phone or on the Web.” To contact 511 Contra Costa, simply visit <www.511contracosta.org> or call toll-free The 511 Contra Costa program is sponsored by the Contra Costa Transportation Authority (CCTA) and Contra Costa County’s four regional transportation planning committees. Funding is provided through Contra Costa County’s half-cent transportation sales tax, and through MTC and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District. . MTC is the transportation planning, financing and coordinating agency for the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area. # # #
