bkahn@mtc.ca.gov OAKLAND, Calif., January 25, 2006…San Mateo County Supervisor Adrienne J. Tissier officially took office today as the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors’ representative on the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC). Tissier replaces former San Mateo County Supervisor Mike Nevin, who stepped down from MTC in December 2005 and is running for the California State Senate. Tissier will fill the remainder of Nevin’s MTC term, which expires in February 2007. A city councilmember for Daly City from 1996 through 2004 – and twice mayor of Daly City – Tissier was elected unopposed in March 2004 to the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, taking her seat in January 2005. In addition to her city council experience, Tissier brings more than 20 years as a successful businesswoman in San Mateo County. At MTC, Tissier said she intends to carry through on the regional level some of the initiatives she has pursued at the city and county levels: enhancing disaster preparedness, ensuring funding flows from state and federal programs, protecting the environment, cutting through bureaucracy to expedite project delivery, and ensuring mobility for senior and disabled residents. “There are issues as well as solutions that we must examine as a region,” she said. “The Bay Area as a whole must work together to meet the region’s challenges.” Tissier serves as the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors’ liaison to the county’s Commission on Aging. In this capacity, she has spearheaded a series of popular Older Driver Traffic Safety Seminars in her county – free, half-day classroom instruction engineered to help older drivers stay on the road for as long as possible and as safely as possible. Tissier’s expertise in this area led to her keynoting MTC’s recent Regional Summit on Older Drivers. “I recognize that transportation issues have no borders and no boundaries,” Tissier said. “Whether it’s ensuring older driver safety or taming traffic congestion, we have to address it at the regional level to have an impact.” Tissier is a lifelong San Mateo County resident and holds an economics degree from the University of California, Berkeley. MTC is the transportation planning, coordinating and financing agency for the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area. # # # Note to Editors: A photo of Commissioner Tissier can be downloaded at: http://www.mtc.ca.gov/news/photos/commissioners.htm
