Press ReleasesFor Immediate ReleaseMTC Seeks Minority Citizens for Advisory GroupCONTACT: OAKLAND, Calif., March 30, 2006 . . . Do you have an interest in transportation and how it impacts your community? Are you a minority resident of Alameda, Contra Costa, Napa, San Francisco, Santa Clara or Sonoma county? Then consider applying for a seat on the Metropolitan Transportation Commission’s (MTC) Minority Citizens Advisory Committee (MCAC). MCAC currently has vacancies for advisors who are African American, Asian, Latino and Native American and reside in one of the above listed counties. The purpose of MCAC is to involve minority communities in the transportation planning process for the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area overseen by MTC, and to ensure that the views and needs of minority communities are adequately reflected in MTC policies. No specific educational background is required, just an interest in transportation and how it affects our communities. While positions are voluntary, committee members do receive a stipend and travel expenses for their attendance at monthly meetings, held the second Tuesday of the month at 3:30 p.m. at MTC’s offices in Oakland. Each member serves a two-year term, and the current term will expire in June of 2007. MTC Commissioners will review all applications and make the final selection for appointment to MCAC. The initial application deadline is set for Friday, April 21, 2006, but applications will continue to be accepted for unfilled vacancies. Interested citizens can download a copy of the application form at MTC’s Web site at www.mtc.ca.gov/get_involved/advisory/ or fill out the online form.
