NAPA, Calif., March 19, 2007… Napa County supervisor and Metropolitan Transportation Commission chair Bill Dodd met with Bay Area elected officials, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, last week as part of a transportation-related trip to Washington, D.C.

Dodd, in his role as MTC chair, hosted a reception for Speaker Pelosi and other California elected officials, including Congresswomen Zoe Lofgren and Ellen Tauscher and Representatives Mike Thompson and Jerry McNerney, in the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Room at the Rayburn House Office Building. The reception coincided with the annual legislative conference of APTA, the American Public Transportation Association, where Dodd and other state transportation authorities worked to ensure the state’s share of federal transit security funds. During the three-day conference, the delegation also talked with Secretary of Transportation Mary Peters about greenhouse gas emissions, global warming and the implications for long-term transportation planning.

“We hosted the reception to thank the Speaker and other elected officials for their continued support of the Bay Area and its transportation needs,” Dodd said upon his return to Napa. “MTC Vice Chair Scott Haggerty and I were gratified by the time and attention we received, both from our elected delegation in Washington and from the president’s Secretary of Transportation. We felt we had a very successful week.”

In her comments at the evening reception, which featured Napa County wines, Pelosi thanked Dodd and reiterated her commitment to working to facilitate projects and programs that provide mobility for people regardless of their income level or disabilities, and connectivity in transportation modes.

The Board of Supervisors and staff of Napa County are dedicated to preserving and sustaining Napa County for present and future generations as a community with generous open space, a thriving agricultural industry and a quality human and natural environment.
