OAKLAND, Calif., April 14, 1998 ... The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) is looking for an individual from the African-American community of San Francisco to fill a vacancy on MTC's Minority Citizens Advisory Committee. There also is a committee seat open for a Native American.

The purpose of the Committee is to involve minority communities in the transportation planning process for the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area, and to ensure that the views and needs of minority communities are adequately reflected in MTC policies.

MTC is the regional transportation planning and financing agency in the Bay Area.

MCAC includes representatives from the region's African-American, Asian, Latino and Native American communities.

No specific educational requirements are required, just an interest in transportation and how it affects our communities. Experience in working with the community or community-related issues is desirable. While positions are voluntary, committee members receive a stipend and travel expenses for their attendance at the monthly meetings, held at MTC's offices in Oakland on the third Tuesday of the month, at 3:30 p.m. Each member serves a two-year term.

Applications will be reviewed and committee members selected by MTC's governing board of commissioners. Interested applicants are encouraged to submit a letter of intent or resume by May 15, 1998, or until positions are filled, to Karen Frick, MTC staff liaison to the committee, at MTC, 101 8th Street, Oakland, CA 94607. For more information, contact Ms. Frick at 510/464-7704.
