Starting Saturday, September 12, travelers calling from the new 925 area code will have to dial 510-817-1717 to reach TravInfo, the Bay Area's advanced traveler information system. The 925 area code change affects parts of Alameda and Contra Costa counties. TravInfo - available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays - is a free public service that provides a single source for up-to-the-minute traffic reports for all Bay Area highways; direct telephone connections to public transit and paratransit operators; carpooling information; construction updates on major Caltrans projects; as well as street closures due to flooding in rainy weather and other travel-related information. Local toll charges may apply. In the region's five other area codes (408, 415, 510, 650 and 707), callers can reach TravInfo by simply dialing 817-1717 Ñ no area code required. MTC is working with the California Public Utilities Commission to provide the same convenient, seven-digit number in the 925 area code. TravInfo is sponsored throughout the nine-county Bay Area by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission. # # # |
