The Metropolitan Transportation Commission has begun an intensive planning effort aimed at improving
the Bay Area's transportation network. The goal is to develop a "Bay Area Transportation Blueprint for
the 21st Century" that will set priorities and identify potential new funding sources to maintain and
expand the regional transportation system – beyond the levels provided for in current plans.
Development of the Blueprint will be a cooperative effort, with participation by all transportation
stakeholders and members of the public.
Members of the public are invited to join MTC staff and commissioners for a kickoff public meeting on
the Blueprint. The meeting will feature a presentation outlining some of the possible improvements that
could become part of the Blueprint – rail extensions, rapid water transit, roadway express lanes
and other projects. New funding opportunities – some of which may appear as ballot measures as
early as the year 2000 – also will be explored. Meeting participants will have an opportunity to
comment on the ideas presented, and to indicate their preferences via an electronic voting process.
For directions to the MetroCenter meeting location or for more information, call MTC's Public
Information office at 510/817-5757, e-mail info@mtc.ca.gov or check out the MTC Web site at
