Public Meetings to be Held on Route 24/Caldecott Tunnel Study

OAKLAND, Calif., February 15, 2000 . . . The Metropolitan Transportation Commission
(MTC), in cooperation with Caltrans, the Alameda County Congestion Management Agency, and the Contra
Costa Transportation Authority will host two public meetings on the Route 24/Caldecott Tunnel Corridor
Study. The meetings will give interested parties an opportunity to learn more about the study being
conducted jointly by these agencies, and to provide their input on proposed transportation improvement
strategies. The meeting times and locations are:

The Route 24/Caldecott Tunnel Corridor Study is evaluating conditions at the Caldecott Tunnel and along
the Route 24 Corridor between Interstate 680 in Contra Costa County and Interstate 580 in Alameda
County, and identifying transportation improvements that would alleviate congestion in this corridor.
The study is assessing a full range of transportation options, including not only a new tunnel bore,
but also improvements to transit, carpooling, non-motorized options and local streets.
The public meetings will consist of a formal presentation by MTC on the transportation strategies being
considered in the Route 24/Caldecott Tunnel Corridor Study; a period for public comments; and an "open
house" segment during which participants can visit various information booths, view study materials and
ask questions of agency staff and study consultants. Members of the public will be invited to comment
on the transportation projects and packages presented, and share their ideas on ways to improve travel
through the Route 24 corridor.
