OAKLAND, Calif., May 25, 2000 . . . An all-day public information workshop on the
future of the Bay Area's major airports will be held Saturday, June 3, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the
auditorium of the Hiram W. Johnson State Office Building, 455 Golden Gate Avenue, in San Francisco.
The Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG), the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) and
the Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC) are currently updating the Regional Airport
System Plan to address existing and future air transportation issues in the Bay Area.
The public workshop will include presentations on critical planning issues facing the Oakland, San
Francisco and San Jose international airports, including:
• future demand for air passenger travel and cargo;
• proposed airport runway expansions and other alternatives to meet increasing air travel and
cargo demands;
• impacts of runway expansions on San Francisco Bay, overflight noise, air quality, airport access
and other related issues;
• economic issues.
Briefings on each topic will be provided by planning staff from MTC, ABAG and BCDC and
other experts working on air transportation issues.
The public will have opportunities to comment and ask questions during the workshop.
Current information on the Regional Airport System Plan update, the public workshop agenda, and a
public opinion survey form will be posted on the MTC Web site: <www.mtc.ca.gov>. For
more information on the workshop, call Michelle Brubaker, MTC planner, at 510.464.7861. MTC is the
transportation planning, financing and coordinating agency for the nine-county San Francisco Bay
Area.
