Call 817-1717 for Airport Parking Information

OAKLAND, Calif., Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000...For updates on parking space availability at the three major Bay Area airports today through Christmas Day, travelers can call 817-1717 (no area code needed). Travelers also can get information on public transit and shuttles to the airports.

  • Traffic/Parking: Call 817-1717 (TTY: 817-1718) and select option "2" for up-to-the-minute traffic reports on all major routes in the Bay Area. From Thursday, Dec. 21 through 9 p.m., Monday, Dec. 25, callers can select option "5" for updates on current parking availability at the San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose international airports.
  • Public Transit: Call 817-1717 (TTY: 817-1718) and select option "1" to be connected to any Bay Area public transit agency that serves the airports.
  • Shuttles/Other Ground Transportation: Call 817-1717 and select option "5," for personalized assistance on ground transportation services to San Francisco International Airport. To avoid the airport traffic and parking crunch, travelers are encouraged to leave their vehicles at home and take door-to-door vans, buses, taxis or limousines to the airport.

The 817-1717 service covers the nine-county Bay Area. No area code is needed to call in all six regional area codes (415, 650, 408, 510, 925 and 707.) The service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Data about parking spaces comes directly from airport officials.

"With Bay Area freeways especially crowded during the holidays, we encourage Bay Area travelers to make informed travel decisions by calling 817-1717 for up-to-the-minute, accurate traffic and transit information, " said Dave Ringo, 817-1717 operation manager.

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission, California Highway Patrol, and Caltrans oversee the 817-1717 service in coordination with private companies and other public agencies.
