Special Transit Services on New Year's Eve

OAKLAND, Calif., Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000...Bay Area transit agencies are gearing up
to provide special services on New Year's Eve. Offering free rides, extra service and special passes,
transit operators hope that travelers will forego driving in favor of taking buses, trains and other
transportation alternatives.
Travelers can connect to individual transit agencies by calling 817-1717 (TTY 817-1718) for more
details about the following services:
- BART will run trains until 4 a.m. on New Year's Eve on three lines:
Richmond/Fremont, Dublin/Pleasanton and Pittsburg/Bay Point/Colma. BART also will sell special New
Year's Eve Flash Passes that allow unlimited rides on BART from 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, to 4 a.m.,
Monday, Jan. 1. The passes cost $5 each. Passengers need only show their Flash Pass to BART station
agents to pass through the station entrance gate.
- San Francisco Muni will provide free service on all routes from 8 p.m. on New
Year's Eve to 6 a.m. on Jan. 1, as well as expanded hours and more trains on the Muni Metro.
- Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) will continue its tradition
of providing free rides on all VTA bus and light rail lines from 7 p.m. on New Year's Eve until 3
a.m. on New Year's Day.
- SamTrans is offering free rides on all fixed-route bus service after 8 p.m. on
New Year's Eve.
- Caltrain will offer two extra trains on New Year's Eve: a 5 p.m.train from San
Jose to San Francisco and a train departing San Francisco at 1 a.m. Both trains will make all local
stops.
- In the Tri-Valley area, WHEELS will run Route 10, serving the
Dublin/Pleasanton BART station and the Livermore Transit Center, every 30 minutes on New Year's Eve
until 4 a.m. on Jan. 1. Regular fares will be charged.
- For North Bay celebrants, no special services will be provided. Golden Gate
Transit buses will operate regular Sunday/holiday service on both New Year's Eve and New
Year's Day. On New Year's Eve, Golden Gate Ferry will provide holiday service on
the Larkspur and Sausalito ferries with no service on New Year's day.
- County Connection in Contra Costa County and AC Transit in
Alameda County will offer regular Sunday service on New Year's Eve.
