OAKLAND, Calif., April 13, 2001...Tired of bumper-to-bumper traffic? Or wishing your bus ran more
frequently? Here's your chance to weigh in on a host of transportation issues.
The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) is providing an online, interactive "workshop" to
solicit views on Bay area transportation. By logging on to a special Web page through May 18, 2001, the
public can learn about and express their opinions on transportation issues that will feed into the
2001 Regional Transportation Plan (RTP). The RTP will
specify how approximately $81 billion in federal, state and regional transportation funds should be
spent over the next 25 years.
"The Web workshop is an easy way for people to get involved in important transportation decisions that
affect their lives," said MTC Chair Sharon Brown. "Residents who can't attend one of MTC's community
meetings scheduled in April and early May can still express their views online."
The Web workshop asks a series of questions about priorities, ideas, values and pet peeves regarding
getting around the Bay Area, transportation funding, and impacts of transportation on land use, air
quality, the economy and related issues. Survey participants can receive an MTC lapel pin for taking
the time to offer their opinions.
MTC will tabulate the Web responses, along with responses received at community workshops being held
throughout the region. The public input will help guide MTC planners as they draft the RTP, due in
August 2001. Results of the Web survey will be published on the MTC Web site in late May.
For more information on the RTP, upcoming community meetings or the Web survey, contact the MTC Public
Information Office by phone at 510.817.5757, by e-mail at info@mtc.ca.gov, or log on to www.mtc.ca.gov.
