Media Advisory

For Release: July 23, 2001

WHAT:

Two press conferences to inaugurate the Metropolitan Transportation Commission's Housing Incentive Program (HIP), which represents a major step in MTC's efforts to link transportation and land use.

HIP encourages the location of compact housing near transit by providing local jurisdictions with funding for community-based transportation projects. It is part of a larger MTC program — Transportation for Livable Communities — which offers planning and capital grants for improvements to streetscapes, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, and the like. Fifteen cities around the region are receiving grants in the first funding cycle of the Housing Incentive Program.
