News Conference for Tomorrow Cancelled
OAKLAND, Calif., Sept. 12, 2001… A news conference scheduled for tomorrow,
Sept. 13, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. at the Richmond BART station, has been cancelled.
The purpose of the news conference was to inaugurate the expansion of Golden Gate Transit Bus Route 40,
which became effective Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001. The beefed-up service links the underutilized work force
in North Richmond/West Contra Costa County with employment opportunities in Marin County, providing
more weekday trips, extended hours of service, and greater number of stops on both sides of the Bay,
and nearly doubling weekend runs.
The expansion of Route 40 is being financed with a $536,000 grant from MTC's Low-Income Flexible
Transportation program. Matching funds are being provided by fares, participating transit agencies (AC
Transit, BART and Golden Gate Transit), Marin and Contra Costa counties, and the city of Richmond.
MTC is the transportation planning, financing and coordinating agency for the nine-county San Francisco
Bay Area.
