817-1717 to Provide Information on Short- and Long-Term Parking for Bay Area Airports

Enhanced Service will Supply Holiday Travelers with Hourly Updates on Airport Parking Availability

OAKLAND, Calif., Dec. 19, 2001 . . .Bay Area residents planning to travel during the holidays have one less thing to worry about with the latest enhancement to the 817-1717 Bay Area Transportation Information number. Beginning Friday, Dec. 21 at 8 a.m. until Tuesday, Dec. 25 at 5 p.m. or until parking capacity is exceeded, travelers will be able to dial 817-1717 (TTY: 817-1718) for hourly updates on actual parking space availability at the San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose international airports.

"Airport parking lots tend to fill up quickly around peak travel times. We hope that providing parking availability in advance will aid travelers in their decision-making process as they plan their commute to their intended holiday destinations," said Emily Van Wagner, a project manager for the 817-1717 service. "We're excited about bringing this benefit to Bay Area residents, in addition to all of the other information that the 817-1717 service currently offers." Travelers also can dial 817-1717 to consult operators regarding public transit and shuttle services to and from the airports, as well as for real-time traffic information.

For Airport Parking Information: Call 817-1717 and then dial:

  • Option "5134" for San Francisco International Airport
  • Option "5114" for Oakland International Airport
  • Option "5124" for San Jose International Airport.

For Traffic Information: Select option "2" for up-to-the-minute traffic reports on any route to the San Francisco, Oakland or San Jose international airports.

For Public Transit: Callers also can select option "1" to be connected to any Bay Area public transit agency that serves the airports.

For Shuttles/Other Ground Transportation: Airport officials encourage travelers to leave their vehicles at home and instead take a door-to-door van, bus, taxi or limo to the airport to beat the traffic and the parking crunch. By calling 817-1717 and selecting option "53," travelers can receive personalized assistance on ground transportation services to San Francisco International Airport.

The 817-1717 service covers the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area. No area code is needed to call 817-1717 from any of the six regional area codes (415, 650, 408, 510, 925 and 707). The service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Data about parking spaces comes directly from airport officials.
