OAKLAND, Calif., July 9, 2002...Do you know a person or organization who has made
an extraordinary contribution to improve the way people get around the Bay Area? The Metropolitan
Transportation Commission (MTC) urges you to recommend them for an award. The deadline for nominations
has been extended to Friday, July 19, 2002.
The public also is encouraged to submit nominations for four special awards that are part of
MTC’s awards program. The Doris W. Kahn Accessible Transportation Award honors a person or
organization whose efforts have resulted in significant improvement in transportation services for the
elderly or persons with disabilities. The John F. Foran Legislative Award honors a state or federal
legislator whose work has had a positive effect on transportation. The Greta Ericson Distinguished
Service Award recognizes long-term, quality leadership in the transportation profession. The Special
Employee Award was recently named in honor of David Tannehill, a longtime MTC planner who passed away
in late 2001. The Tannehill Award is intended for a transportation employee who goes beyond the call of
duty.
