OAKLAND, Calif., Dec. 16, 2002...A news conference scheduled for this
morning, at 10 a.m., at the summit of Highway 17, in the Santa Cruz mountains, has been
cancelled due to weather conditions.
The purpose of the news conference was to announce a new funding agreement for a three-year
extension of the highly successful Highway 17 safety program, "Safe on 17."
The press conference was to be co-hosted by the California Highway Patrol, and the two
funding agencies: the Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission (SCCRTC) and the
Bay Area’s Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) Service Authority for
Freeways and Expressways (SAFE)
MTC is the transportation planning, financing and coordinating agency for the nine-county
San Francisco Bay Area.
