OAKLAND, Calif., May 21, 2003...Unsure whether it makes sense to pay more to fund
transportation priorities? Still unclear if anyone is listening to you about dealing with the lack of
commute options? Glad to know someone heard your frustration about the unfilled potholes? The
Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) wants to hear what Bay Area residents think about public
participation in key regional transportation policy and investment decisions.
Current practices for public participation are detailed in the draft document, "MTC Federal Public Involvement Procedures," which is now available
for review. A public hearing is slated for Friday, June 13 at 10:15 a.m. at the Joseph P. Bort
MetroCenter Auditorium, 101 Eighth Street, Oakland (opposite the Lake Merritt BART station).
"In recent years, MTC has devoted considerable time and attention to evaluating and improving its
public involvement activities," said MTC Chair Steve Kinsey. "We have made a number of changes —
including beefing up our citizen advisory committees and enhancing our Web site — so we can hear
from interested residents."
Copies of the revised document, "Draft MTC Federal Public Involvement Procedures," are available for
public review on the MTC Web site at www.mtc.ca.gov, at the MTC-ABAG Library, 101 Eighth
Street, Oakland, or at major public libraries in each of the nine Bay Area counties.
Suggestions or comments also may be submitted to the attention of
MTC’s Public Information office via mail at 101 Eighth Street, Oakland, CA 94607, via fax at
510.817.5848 or via e-mail to info@mtc.ca.gov. All
comments must be received by 4 p.m. on Friday, July 11, 2003. MTC is scheduled to adopt final
procedures at its July 23 meeting. For more information or for a copy of the proposed revisions, call
the MTC Public Information office at 510.817.5757; TTY/TDD phone number is 510.817.5769.
MTC is the transportation planning, coordinating and financing agency for the nine-county San Francisco
Bay Area.
