OAKLAND, Calif., Nov. 23, 2004...Bay Area residents can weigh in on local and regional transportation issues at any of three workshops/public hearings hosted by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) to discuss the newly released Draft Transportation 2030 Plan. A light meal will be offered at each meeting. The dates, times and locations of the workshop/hearings are as follows:
The Draft Transportation 2030 Plan specifies how more than $113 billion of anticipated federal, state and local transportation funds will be invested throughout the nine-county Bay Area from 2005 through 2030. While focused on transportation, the draft plan also spotlights land-use issues, the region’s projected population and job growth, the aging of the Bay Area population, and regional efforts to improve air quality. According to MTC Chair and Marin County Supervisor Steve Kinsey, “We’ve solicited public comment at every step of the development of Transportation 2030, and the draft plan shows that MTC has been listening.” Among the topics to be discussed at the upcoming workshops/public hearings are maintenance funding for roads and transit, lifeline transportation for low-income communities, linkages between transportation and land use, investments in bicycle and pedestrian facilities, and a proposed network of high-occupancy/toll lanes on Bay Area freeways. Copies of the 139-page Draft Transportation 2030 Plan are available in public libraries and by mail upon request (phone 510.817.5836 or visit the MTC Web site at www.mtc.ca.gov/T2030/order.htm). The plan also can be viewed and downloaded on the MTC Web site at www.mtc.ca.gov. In addition to attending and speaking at the upcoming workshops/hearings, members of the public can comment on the Draft Transportation 2030 Plan by mail (MTC Public Information, 101 Eighth Street, Oakland, CA 94607), by e-mail (info@mtc.ca.gov) or by fax (510.817.5848). MTC is the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area’s transportation planning, coordinating and financing agency. # # # |
