Press ReleasesFor Immediate ReleaseMTC Invites Residents to Help Steer a Better Course For Bay Area TransportationNine Workshops Scheduled Around the BayContact: OAKLAND, Calif., April 17, 2008 . . . What
is your vision for Bay Area transportation? The Metropolitan
Transportation Commission (MTC), working in conjunction with
other regional agencies, is undertaking a major update to
its long-range transportation plan for the nine-county San
Francisco Bay Area. Known as “Transportation 2035:
Change in Motion,” the effort signals MTC’s commitment
to promoting sustainability and mobility in the face of continued
growth and global warming impacts. Following
extensive outreach in the fall of 2007 and the submission
of hundreds of possible transportation projects, MTC now
seeks input on the next phase of the development of the Transportation
2035 Plan: the trade-offs among various options for investing
the region’s limited transportation resources. A series of nine workshops – one
in each of the nine Bay Area counties – is scheduled
for the public to participate in the debate. “Right now, the Transportation 2035 Plan is a work in progress. By the time it is adopted in early 2009, it will guide all Bay Area transportation policies and investments,” noted MTC Chair Bill Dodd, who also serves as a Napa County Supervisor. “There is a critical role for the public to play in these workshops in that it is their money we are going to invest,” added Dodd. “We’d like to hear from Bay Area residents about their transportation priorities.” Find a Transportation 2035 Workshop in Your County!
