Press ReleasesFor Immediate ReleaseNominations Deadline Nears for MTC Transportation Awards ProgramNominations Accepted Through March 31, 2012 Contact: MTC is the regional transportation planning agency for the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area and, for the past 35 years, its “Excellence in Motion” awards program has recognized individuals, projects and organizations that have had a positive impact on transportation in the region. Winners will be selected by a jury representing MTC and the community. Past winners include Stanford University for its alternative transportation program; Cycles of Change, Street Smarts, Safe Routes to Schools and Cool the Earth for educating the next generation to make environmentally friendly transportation choices; Fannie Mae Barnes, who broke through a long-entrenched gender barrier to become the first female cable car grip for San Francisco Muni; and Brian McLean, Vacaville’s fleet and transit manager, for establishing the Solano County Intercity Taxi Scrip Program for disabled residents — transforming lives by providing 24/7 access to transportation. Recognition has also gone to volunteers, community leaders and government employees dedicated to improving transportation for Bay Area residents.
