This Plan Is Your Plan
Nearly 6,000 Bay Area residents from
all walks of life helped shape the Draft
Transportation 2035 Plan. The outreach effort — unprecedented for MTC in
its scope — began in June 2007
with “early dialogue” workshops on overall goals for the 25-year
plan. The conversation continued in the fall of that year, when MTC and the Association
of Bay Area Governments sponsored a joint regional forum in Oakland that drew
a “sellout” crowd
of 700 attendees. And throughout 2007 and 2008, MTC reached out to constituents
with numerous public workshops and focus groups, two statistically valid telephone
polls (conducted in three
languages), interactive Web surveys, “person on the street” interviews,
and
in-depth discussions with members of MTC’s three advisory committees.
Whether you participated in the extensive outreach effort over these past two
years or are tuning in to the Transportation 2035 process for the first time,
we encourage you to take a few moments to read this special issue of Transactions.
In it, we highlight what’s new and different about the plan, and provide
some compelling statistics as to what the plan can and cannot achieve.
We also invite you to view the full plan along with its Draft
Environmental Impact Report (EIR) and associated
documents, and to send us comments via the
methods — and by the deadlines — described below.
