1998 Annual Report

MTC Programming of State & Federal Funds 1998 - 2004*

Over the next six years -- the period covered by the 1998 Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century and the 1998 State Transportation Improvement Program -- $2.89 billion in state and federal funding is expected to pass through MTC's hands. This represents a substantial increase in MTC's funding authority over the prior six-year period. MTC has set aside a full 56 percent of this flexible money for system rehabilitation and replacement, versus 28 percent for system expansion. Most of the remainder, 16 percent, is earmarked for innovative programs to better manage the transportation network and restore community vitality.
