Transactions 1993 Transactions Retrospective: 1993

Transactions stories in 1993 reflected the wide range of subjects the word "transportation" encompasses: from a report on bicyclists getting a boost from ISTEA's innovative funding programs (see 1991), to an airing of a "dirty dozen" list of mobility roadblocks compiled by MTC's Freight Advisory Council, to an eyewitness account of a day in the life of a Freeway Service Patrol tow truck driver.

The word "livable" entered our vocabulary for the first time, when MTC co-hosted a workshop on revitalizing the urban landscape. And we added two other words to the MTC lexicon: TravInfo®, our traveler information system, and TransLink®, the smart card that is expected ultimately to serve as the region's universal transit ticket.

As if our acronym list of 1992 wasn't long enough, MTC launched the RTSOP -- Regional Traffic Signalization and Operations Program -- to help communities upgrade and coordinate their traffic signal networks. RTSOP later morphed into TETAP -- the Traffic Engineering Technical Assistance Program, which has similar aims.
