Air Quality Update

As Transactions went to press, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a finding that amounts to a vote of confidence in the region's air quality planning efforts.

The EPA's decision on the region's motor vehicle emissions budget clears the way for MTC to act on the air quality conformity determination for the 2001 Regional Transportation Plan (RTP). Local officials also anticipate that the freeze on federal transportation funding for the region will soon be lifted.

MTC is planning a special meeting on March 15 to consider the RTP conformity issue.
