Stockton Street in San Francisco's Chinatown is in line for upgrades.
MTC has awarded $565,980 from its Transportation for Livable Communities (TLC) program to 10 planning efforts around the region.

MTC established the TLC program in 1998 to foster development geared to the needs of pedestrians, transit riders and bicyclists, and to strengthen links between transportation and land-use patterns.

To date, MTC has awarded $1.8 million to 53 TLC planning projects and $39 million to 47 TLC capital projects.

The current round of planning grants will help sponsors conduct outreach and flesh out designs for a variety of community-enhancing transportation projects.

  • The city of San Francisco received a $51,480 grant to develop plans for improving walkability and transit connectivity along Stockton Street in Chinatown.
  • In San Jose, a $54,500 grant will enable planners to design a multiuse trail along Coyote Creek.
  • A $75,000 grant will help further plans for revitalizing the Martinez waterfront and creating a transit village adjacent to the Martinez intermodal station.
  • The city of Napa will use a $60,000 grant to develop plans for streetscape improvements and traffic calming measures on First and Second streets in association with a new downtown trolley service.
