Bus, Train & Ferry Guide

Good news for commuters, day-trippers and tourists: MTC is getting ready to reissue its popular transit guide, reducing the size as well as the price -- the 1999 version is free! Now a pamphlet that can easily fit in a pocket or purse, the guide packs in much of the same information as its book-sized predecessors, showing bus, rail and ferry service up and down the Bay Area, from Santa Rosa in the north to San Jose in the south. The 22-page brochure includes more than a dozen full-color route maps -- with close-ups of downtown areas -- along with directions to hundreds of popular destinations. For elderly and disabled travelers, there's a directory of wheelchair accessible van and special taxi services, and for travelers whose destinations are beyond the Bay Area, a guide to public transit to the region's three international airports. In addition to contact information for 35 transit operators large and small, you'll find more than three dozen other useful phone numbers.
