June 2002
Call for Award
Nominations
Jack Desrocher |
After a two-year break, MTC's Transportation Awards Program is back. The program
recognizes innovations that improve the transportation network; educational programs that
promote safety, the use of transit and the like; activities that encourage alternatives to
driving alone; volunteers who help brighten our daily commutes; efforts to boost smart
growth; and members of the media who do an exceptional job of informing the public.
Nominations also are invited for four special awards. The Doris W. Kahn Accessible
Transportation Award honors a person or organization whose efforts have benefited the
elderly or persons with disabilities; the John F. Foran Legislative Award honors a state or
federal legislator whose work has had a positive effect on transportation; and the Greta
Ericson Distinguished Service Award recognizes quality leadership in the transportation
profession.
A new category this year is the David Tannehill Special Employee Award, named for a
longtime MTC planner who passed away in late 2001. The award is intended for a
transportation employee who goes beyond the call of duty.
The deadline for nominations is Friday, July 12, 2002. For an
application form or to submit your nomination online, visit the MTC Awards page or call the MTC Public
Information Office at 510.817.5757.
Speaking of Awards...
The California Transportation Foundation in May honored MTC's Web-based transit trip
planner (see story) with a 2002 Tranny Award for transit
management.
