Web Transit Trip Planner
Expands Coverage
MTC's online transit trip-planner took a
quantum leap this spring, with coverage expanding to include eight more transit systems.
Now travelers can plan transit trips involving 18 interlocking local bus, train and ferry
operators that together offer approximately 440 routes and serve some 11,500 bus stops and
transit stations.
MTC launched the Web trip planner in July 2001 with information on 10 transit systems:
AC Transit, BART, County Connection (Central Contra Costa Transit Authority),
Emery-Go-Round, San Francisco Muni and Union City Transit, as well as the Alameda-Oakland,
Golden Gate Transit, Harbor Bay Island and Vallejo ferry services.
The eight new transit systems are Altamont Commuter Express (ACE), Benicia Transit,
Caltrain, Dumbarton Express, Tri Delta Transit, Vallejo Transit, WestCAT and WHEELS
(operated by the Livermore/Amador Valley Transit Authority). Several more systems will be
incorporated in the coming months.
The service has generated more than 875,000 personalized transit itineraries since its
inception.
"The volume has been impressive," said MTC project manager Emilio Escudero. "Obviously,
this is an idea whose time has come."
