TransLink® Smart Card Pilot
Program Expands
The TransLink® regional fare pay-ment system took a big
step forward in June when MTC and San Francisco Muni expanded the Pilot Program to include
the en-tire Muni Metro system (but not the F line fleet of historic streetcars). This marks
the first expan-sion of the TransLink® system since the Pilot Program was launched in
February on select routes and at select stations of six of the Bay Area's biggest tran- sit
operators: AC Transit, BART, Caltrain, Golden Gate Transit and the Santa Clara Valley
Transportation Authority, as well as San Francisco Muni.
Previously, the only Muni line equipped with TransLink® card
readers was the N-Judah. Passengers participating in the TransLink® Pilot Program can
now use their distinctive plastic smart cards to also ride Muni Metro's J, K, L, M and S
lines. With the expanded availability, customers will be able to use their TransLink®
cards to board the Muni Metro system at major stations such as Church, Castro, Forest Hill
and West Portal as well as at stops throughout the light-rail network.
