September 1999
Some of Us Have Moved!

1999 Harrison With its staff expanding in response to new legislatively prescribed duties, MTC has been outgrowing its headquarters at the Joseph P. Bort MetroCenter in Oakland. In September, the space crunch eased when two sections moved to new offices at Lake Merritt Plaza, located at 1999 Harrison Street in downtown Oakland.

Relocated are the Transit Coordination and Access Section, and the Bridge and Highway Operations Section. The latter section not only is responsible for MTC's Pavement Management Program, but also staffs two other MTC-sponsored entities: the Bay Area Toll Authority, which came to life a year and a half ago to oversee the region's seven state-owned toll bridges, and the Service Authority for Freeways and Expressways, which oversees the region's call box network and the Freeway Service Patrol tow truck service.

MTC's standing committee meetings and monthly Commission meeting will continue to be held at the MetroCenter, although some staff-level interagency meetings could be scheduled at the new offices.

Lake Meritt Plaza is located two blocks from the 19th Street BART station, and is also served by several AC Transit routes.
