With term limits affecting only a handful of local legislators, the November elections returned most Bay Area lawmakers to their seats in the state Legislature for the 2001 session. Still, some familiar faces will depart, others will reappear in new roles and several newcomers will make their debuts on the Sacramento scene.

State senators for Districts 2, 4, 8 and 10 were not up for re-election this year, and will retain their seats in the 2001 session. They are, respectively, Wesley Chesbro (D), Maurice Johannessen (R), Jackie Speier (D) and Liz Figueroa (D).
