FTA Administrator Helps Launch TransLink® Card

Dorn tests TransLinkIn late November, visiting VIP Jennifer Dorn joined representatives from MTC and area transit agencies at the Caltrain station in San Francisco for a ceremonial launch of the TransLink® pilot program (see story at right). Ms. Dorn, head of the Federal Transit Administration, got into the spirit of the occasion by using the plastic fare card to travel on the Muni Metro light-rail "N" line from the Embarcadero station in downtown San Francisco to the Caltrain station site at 4th and King streets.

At the kickoff event -- fresh from her own "pre-test" and with her newly minted TransLink® card in hand -- Ms. Dorn reiterated U.S. Transportation Secretary (and San Jose native) Norman Mineta's description of the project as "visionary" and "the kind of creative thinking this region will need." She added, "I am not from the Bay Area, but I know a good idea when I see it. With TransLink®, the Bay Area transportation agencies have demonstrated that they care about their customers. I hope that this model will be tried by other metro areas with complex transit services."
