Secretary Mineta Honored The San Jose City Council renamed San Jose
International Airport to honor U.S. Secretary of Transportation Norman Y. Mineta in early
November
"Renaming our highest profile transportation facility for Norm Mineta is an excellent
recognition for a son of San Jose who has dedicated nearly four decades of exemplary public
service to our community and our country," said San Jose Mayor Ron Gonzales.
From 1975 to 1995 Mineta served in Congress, where he chaired the House Public Works and
Transportation Committee as well as the committee's Aviation Subcommittee and its Surface
Transportation Subcommittee, and was instrumental in passage of the landmark Intermodal
Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991. Early in his career, Mineta served as mayor
of San Jose and as a city councilman.
