Commission Actions

November 2002
  • Adopted the Public Involvement Plan Update, which commits MTC to expanding its outreach and sets performance measures for these efforts.Regional Transportation Plan
  • Amended the 2001 Regional Transportation Plan to highlight strategies for increasing regional transit ridership by a specified amount by 2006 to comply with a recent federal court ruling.
  • Forwarded to the Bay Area Water Transit Authority comments on their draft ferry Implementation and Operating Plan. The report will factor into legislative plans for a proposed $1 toll hike on the region’s state-owned bridges.

October 2002
  • Established guidelines for the devel-opment of community transportation plans, which will identify transportation gaps in targeted low-income communities and recommend actions to help residents get to jobs and essential services. The effort furthers the Lifeline Transportation Network envisioned in the agency’s 2001 Regional Transportation Plan.
  • Launched a Regional Transit Connectivity Initiative that will identify and prioritize opportunities to improve signage, customer information, and access to stops and stations, with the goal of smoothing transfers among the region’s many bus, rail and ferry systems.
  • Formally recognized the Bay Area Partnership as an official advisory body to MTC that will report quarterly to the Commission. The Partnership consists of top managers of some five dozen public agencies responsible for moving people and goods in the Bay Area, as well as for protecting the region’s environmental quality.
