The TODcast

The purpose of this series is to give you a first-hand look at transit-oriented development as local cities, residents, developers and planners in the San Francisco Bay Area bring this concept to life. Whether you call them transit villages, walkable neighborhoods, or transit-oriented developments, the general concept is the same: when you cluster homes, services and shops around transit, you create a synergy that results in a whole host of benefits for the community and the region. You’ll hear more about what makes transit-oriented development – also known as “ TOD” or “T.O.D.” - work throughout our tour, as we talk to the people that are making it happen.

This series is sponsored by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and the Association of Bay Area Governments.
The TODcast: Downtown San José

The tour begins at Diridon Station in San José and will last about an hour – you should also leave another 30-45 minutes to get back to Diridon Station when you’re done. To get there, take Amtrak from the east bay, or CalTrain from the north bay to downtown San José.
This tour is also going to require you getting on VTA light rail from Diridon Station to downtown. Since the light rail line from Diridon Station to downtown only runs about every 30 minutes, it’s advisable to obtain a schedule for Route 902 - the Winchester to Mountain View light rail line - before you leave so you can time your connection. Visit vta.org to look up the schedules.
