Cycling enthusiasts and regional leaders gathered in anticipation outside the San Francisco Caltrain station last week to watch the Bay Area’s first bike sharing initiative hit the road.
A modest but eager contingent of local officials, bicycle activists and members of the media gathered at the foot of the new East Span’s eastbound deck in Oakland to inaugurate the Bay Bridge’s first ever bicycle/pedestrian path.
During the five-day Bay Bridge closure leading up to the Labor Day grand opening of the new East Span, construction crews worked 24/7 to add the finishing touches.
Among the finishing touches underway on the new Bay Bridge East Span last week was the preparation of temporary wooden modules to extend the span’s bike path the final distance to the Oakland shoreline.
